This luxury 7,000 sf home won the Town of Atherton Green Building Award 2009, in "recognition of environmental leadership in green building practices." The two-story home with partial basement was inspired by early farmhouse architecture. The house was carefully sited on the lot for optimum solar orientation and maximum preservation of the many heritage oaks. A solar hydronic radiant floor system takes care of home
heating, and ceiling fans and a whole house fan keep the home cool without need for air-conditioning. Other features of the home include: reclaimed barnwood for the hardwood flooring, bamboo basement flooring, spray-in expanding foam wall insulation, low-VOC paint & finishes, compressed paper kitchen countertops, reclaimed walnut island counter, and fly-ash content in the structural concrete.
